Dear Aadit.

We are the team David's Dream, we hope to create a knowledge-sharing website so that simply by searching the course code of a module people can find all the past year paper, cheatsheet, notes, past year videos, and so on. We also hope to integrate a blog function and a community system in our website to better cooperate with other users.

Why do we choose this project? Well, our goal is to minimize the time we spend on sourcing. We found that now we lack a one-stop website that integrates all the module resources. This makes the cheatsheet-making process and past-year paper searching extremely time-consuming. So we plan to create a website where students are free to share all their documents and videos. Additionally, we hope there's a blog system on the website for students to better evaluate a course through the seniors' studying journey. For users can better cooperate, we will develop a community system, so that users can gather other students who can be as aspiring as them.

Why us? We are the group that are excited about creating a full-stack application that contains complex backend system. Your mentoring experience is really making us excited. We believe that you must an experienced mentor interested in web development project. If you also hope to give guidance to a web developer then we are your group.

Aadit Rahul Kamat

Hi, He Shi and Chengyu, thank you for selecting me as your mentor. I'm glad that I have the opportunity to guide you through your project.

I liked the idea of the project: it's combining access to study materials which are available on a platform like CourseHero with the LMS features from Canvas and community features of NUSMods (which uses Disqus under the hood). It seems sufficiently complex and will be of great benefit to the students.

A couple of things I would like to highlight in your submission:

  1. Make sure the deliverables are presented in English; the user should not have to translate in order to understand the contents (in this case, the README)
  2. I'm wondering if the blog system is needed, if the notes pertaining to the course will be available as documents on the website.
  3. I'm not as well-versed with UI/UX design, but I think that the poster could be improved. Here are some improvements I can suggest:
    i. The headline "one-stop studying platform" should not be directly under the credentials, and putting it after the project title "One" makes it less pleasing aesthetically.
ii. Don't include dummy credentials in your poster
iii. I'm not sure what you guys were trying to indicate by making the first letters of each feature bold, because the acronym is not memorable. It would be
better to format them using bullets.
iv. I don't see the purpose of the different icons under the Lecture Notes section, unless you're trying to show that there would be different types of materials (powerpoint, videos, or PDF files) that would be uploaded. In that case, I feel that they should be showcased in a regular file hierarchy rather than through different icons for different kinds of materials.
  4. I'm wondering if you would like to add a search feature to make it easier for users to search for the course of interest as well as the document pertaining to the course of interest. You have mentioned the recommendation system - would you be using the priority to display the most popular documents in a "feed" to the user? Even then, it would be useful to have the search feature in case the user wants to search for documents other than those recommended. You have mentioned a user story related to this feature (the first one in the Google Doc) but haven't explicitly mentioned the feature itself.

Other than these suggestions, I'd say the proposal gives a good idea of what the project would entail. I'm excited to see how this project comes along during your Orbital journey!
