Hi Ms Tham,

We are Team SmartCookies, aiming to create a mobile application that would be able to digitalise and track our wardrobe items.

Our team has sincere interest in having you as our mentor for our project; we noticed that you are looking for a team that can build usable products and thought that our goals align with this mindset. For us, we wish to create a digital wardrobe not only to encourage users to be more mindful about their clothing purchases, but also aim to use Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to explore the possibility of having the app recommend outfits to the user.

As our app is very personal and is focused around fashion, we believe that having a good UI/UX is important to enhance the features of our app. Your guidance and expertise in this area will offer us invaluable insights that we can add to our app.

We believe that this makes you an ideal mentor who can guide us and inspire us to reach new heights with our application.

We see this mentorship as an opportunity to complete our project successfully and grow both individually and as a team. On top of that, we believe that we will learn invaluable lessons and skills that will extend beyond this project and into our future or personal work.

We understand your time is precious and greatly appreciate your consideration. Should you choose to mentor our team, we will make sure to commit to making the most of this opportunity and working diligently to achieve our goals. Your guidance would impact our project and shape our future endeavours in computer science.

Thank you for considering our request! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or require further information. We look forward to the possibility of working with you and creating something valuable together.

Deliverables:

Dear Ms Esther Tham,

We are Project Sage and our Orbital project is Odyssey, a rougelite RPG, aimed at providing players with an engaging combat game that explores the adventures adapted from the chapters of the famous Chinese novel "Journey to the West". In our game, players can look forward to learning the mechanics of each character and utilising in-battle character swapping to conquer various chapters and their unique chapter-specific mechanics, thereby guaranteeing an immersive gaming experience for all!

Our rationale for choosing to pursue game development for Orbital '23 stems from our curiosity on the game development scene. Thus we have set out to utilise the valuable opportunity provided by Orbital to learn important SE practices through developing our very own game!

Equipped with the lore of the highly regarded "Journey to the West", we believe we have a strong foundation for a game that allows players to explore the many adventures that are written in the popular novel and we are fully committed to realising this potential. We hope to tap on your wealth of experience in software development to guide us and allow us to achieve the goals that we have set for this Orbital project

Feel free to peruse the attached materials for a better understanding of the specifics of our project as well as to contact us on the relevant platforms should the need arise!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,
Project Sage (5827)

Hi Ms Tham,
We are Clay and Xenos, and our project is called RPGym. We aim to revolutionise the gym experience by making working out consistently fun and accessible for everyone. We plan to provide users with an all-in-one mobile application that combines an RPG-style gamification system and comprehensive workout tracking tools to help people stay motivated, log their progress, and achieve their fitness goals.

Both of us have started going to the gym recently, and we sometimes find it hard to stay motivated, especially without friends to consistently exercise with. In order to solve our problem, we wanted to make an application which makes staying motivated to exercise easier. We will implement gamification and peer accountability features to help with motivation, and implement workout tracking features that allow users to track their progress at the gym.

We would like to work with you as we share your passion for visual and interaction design, and want to make RPGym as usable as possible. We believe that your experience in the field will provide valuable insights and guidance to our project.

Feel free to contact us or refer to the attached materials to find out more about the specifics of our project. We hope that you will take us up as mentees and we look forward to potentially working with you. Thank you for your time!

Hi Esther,
We are Ivan Lee and Amy Ling from BeatIt.

Our project aims to improve the quality of life of dancers by simplifying processes such as reviewing videos or playing back music to practise different parts of the choreography.

How the app will work is that users can import their dance music into the app, which will give them the option to add bookmarks which they can then access while playing the music. Then with a push of a button, users can skip forward or back to the right moment to start practising the choreography.

In addition, users can also choose to overlay a new audio file of choice over their video should the original audio be too muffled or distorted. They can then choose to have the audio synced automatically to the video, removing the need for any wasted effort on the user’s end. This new video with higher quality sound helps dancers focus purely on remembering their steps instead of having to guess which part of the song they are at.

Our app will also serve as a form of visualisation for the different positions that dancers have to take on stage by providing ways for the video to be annotated. These annotations can then be shared with the other dancers as well, providing an effective way for choreographers to give feedback to their dancers.

We plan on using React Native for the frontend and Firebase for our backend databases. We will also make use of Python for signal processing and libraries such as FFmpeg for video processing.

We believe that your rich experience in visual design and strong focus on improving user experience will be a huge asset to our project, which caters to users from quite a niche demographic. Having a smooth user experience is a major focus for our project, since our main goal is to reduce the friction faced by dancers in their practice sessions.

We hope that you will consider mentoring us and providing us with some of your invaluable insights!

Thank you!

Dear Ms Esther Tham,

We are a highly motivated group of students who are always willing to step out of our comfort zone to try new and cool staff. We recognize that UI/UX is critical to the success of any project, and we are eager to find mentors who can guide us in building a scalable and user-friendly software.

Our project, AcademiMate, is a desktop application designed for project management as well as academic planning. It incorporates the Pomodoro techniqque and utilizes graph-based visualisation to help users manage tasks, stay on track, and improve productivity.

We believe that your expertise in UI/UX could be invaluable in helping us to achieve our goals. We would be honored to have the opportunity to learn from you and receive your guidance. Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Team 5899

Hi Ms. Tham!

We are Heng Yi and Tjun Lym, and are delighted to present our proposed product, DurExchange with you. It is a web application that serves as a business development tool, aimed to optimize the accounting and sales-tracking processes for small-scale businesses, more details can be found in the materials attached above.

As we are working on a web application that aims to help small business owners to focus on producing high-quality products and services instead of being bogged down with complicated accounting, we believe that your extensive expertise in UI/UX will aid us in realizing the vision for our app. In the case of DurExchange, an intuitive and easy-to-use interface is essential for small business owners who may not have the technical expertise or time to navigate a complex system. A clean and visually appealing UI can help users quickly find the information they need, while a logical and structured UX can guide them through the various functions of the app, improving their overall experience.

We are eager to expand our knowledge on UI/UX, and we are fully aware that the project ahead of us demands extensive efforts and time, but we are a team of driven individuals who are determined to gain knowledge and skills required to complete the task successfully. Thus, we would greatly appreciate it if you would be willing to provide mentorship to our team.

Thank you for considering us, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,
Tjun Lym & Heng Yi

Dear Esther Tham @"Esther Tham",

We are writing to you to express our interest in having you as our mentor here at Team HawkerBro.

HawkerBro is a mobile application that seeks to connect hawker stall owners and consumers. The hawker culture in Singapore is very unique. However, due to rising food prices and cost of living, the hawker culture is weakening. This has led to a decline in the number of hawker stalls and thus, a loss in some of our traditional foods that are integral to our identity.

This mobile application aims to contribute to the preservation of the hawker culture in Singapore. By increasing the accessibility to affordable and diverse hawker food, we can connect consumers to hawker owners to support our local entrepreneurs.

Our team comprises individuals who are keen in learning new software engineering practices that can help create solutions to industry problems. We decided to reach out to you as your area of interest aligns with the expertise that we require in carrying out our project. We are sure that with your guidance, we will be able to upgrade our knowledge in this field to complete our task and hopefully deploy it for public use.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best Regards,
Team HawkerBro (#5793)
