Dear Dhawan,

We are contacting you to express our interest in getting you on board as our mentor in Orbital 2023. After reviewing the requirements that you are looking out for, we believe that our project will be a great match.

Our project aims to enable all students to experience interdisciplinary learning, an area that we find extremely valuable. This means that students can easily access materials from other majors and faculties, learn beyond the scope of their majors and even connect with students beyond their faculty. Interdisciplinary learning is important because it enables us to generate new links between different concepts and create new ideas and products from this link. Hence, we hope to create an app that will be a one stop shop for all NUS students. Users will be able to publish their own articles, access cross-faculty resources and network with students with similar interests. The tech stack of our application includes Flutter, Firebase, MySQL.

Our team comprises driven individuals who are passionate about creating innovative solutions to real-world problems. Hence, we are seeking a mentor with a wealth of experience in the field who can provide insights, advice and feedback as we develop our project. We are reaching out to you because we saw your wealth of experience in software engineering and product development and we believe that your expertise would be a valuable asset to our team.

We will greatly appreciate your review of our project proposal, poster and video. If you are interested in being our mentor for the Orbital project, please let us know. We would be honoured to have you on board. Thank you!

@"Dhawan Punukullu"

Hi Dhawan,

I'm Aryan Gupta, a member of Team Kuhaku, alongside Satvik Shankar. We would love to have you onboard as our mentor for Orbital 2023, and feel that we would be a good match.

With our project, we aim to create an ideal investment platform to help people with mechanism for investment of the financial knowledge for the same, to diversify their savings portfolio. Why? Here in India, most middle class families put all their savings in fixed deposits (infact 95% of all savings, by a survey by RBI), and only a few keep mutual funds or stocks (only 8% of the people, as calculated by SEBI). This makes a large part of the population taking under-market returns on savings, and prone to a economic collapse. Well, there's more background, and you can go through the proposal for a lot of it.

Why did we pick you? This is simple to answer. Sadly, we have no prior experience in software development. This would be our first project, and so we have hit multiple roadblocks already. Someone might think that a business-oriented mentor might be better, right now we feel that we will be facing higher obstacles in development, which is what we maximize here in orbital first. And we think you're the best person for it.

Why should you pick us? There are a lot of teams out there (and one even before us), and we have no experience to boot. However, it is because of the same, and that we are here at the Arthemis level of orbital, that we will not let anyone else best us in putting in the hardwork. We are passionate, adaptable and look to creatively explore and solve the problem. With your experience, we can take our project to the highest level, and even beyond orbital.

Here are the links to our proposal, poster, and liftoff video. We would love you feedback on these, and would be honored to have you onboard our project.

You can reach out to us at aryan@u.nus.edu or e1070591@u.nus.edu (email), @AryanGupta9803 or @Jfkivtas2804 (Telegram), 91202887 or 86475168 (Whatsapp).

Deliverables:

Dear Mr Dhawan,

We are Project Sage and our Orbital project is Odyssey, a rougelite RPG, aimed at providing players with an engaging combat game that explores the adventures adapted from the chapters of the famous Chinese novel "Journey to the West". In our game, players can look forward to learning the mechanics of each character and utilising in-battle character swapping to conquer various chapters and their unique chapter-specific mechanics, thereby guaranteeing an immersive gaming experience for all!

Our rationale for choosing to pursue game development for Orbital '23 stems from our curiosity on the game development scene. Thus we have set out to utilise the valuable opportunity provided by Orbital to learn important SE practices through developing our very own game!

Equipped with the lore of the highly regarded "Journey to the West", we believe we have a strong foundation for a game that allows players to explore the many adventures that are written in the popular novel and we are fully committed to realising this potential. We hope to tap on your wealth of experience in software development to guide us and allow us to achieve the goals that we have set for this Orbital project

Feel free to peruse the attached materials for a better understanding of the specifics of our project as well as to contact us on the relevant platforms should the need arise!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Dhawan,
We are Ivan Lee and Amy Ling from BeatIt.

Our project aims to improve the quality of life of dancers by simplifying processes such as reviewing videos or playing back music to practise different parts of the choreography.

How the app will work is that users can import their dance music into the app, which will give them the option to add bookmarks which they can then access while playing the music. Then with a push of a button, users can skip forward or back to the right moment to start practising the choreography.

In addition, users can also choose to overlay a new audio file of choice over their video should the original audio be too muffled or distorted. They can then choose to have the audio synced automatically to the video, removing the need for any wasted effort on the user’s end. This new video with higher quality sound helps dancers focus purely on remembering their steps instead of having to guess which part of the song they are at.

Our app will also serve as a form of visualisation for the different positions that dancers have to take on stage by providing ways for the video to be annotated. These annotations can then be shared with the other dancers as well, providing an effective way for choreographers to give feedback to their dancers.

We plan on using React Native for the frontend and Firebase for our backend databases. We will also make use of Python for signal processing and libraries such as FFmpeg for video processing.

With your deep experience in the industry and as a manager, we believe that we have a lot to learn from you, about best practices, agile development strategies, testing and integration. While we have a vision, which is to help dancers improve themselves and remove the roadblocks in their way, we are seeking someone who can help us turn this vision into reality.

We are a team of two hardworking and determined individuals who want to solve a real-world problem which we faced and want to improve the quality of life of dancers. Hopefully we can share this vision with you and convince you to join us on this adventure!

Dear Mr. Dhawan,
We are CodeForGood and we are thrilled to introduce our project, NUSMatch, to you. As students ourselves, we recognise the challenges that students face when forming project and study groups. As such, our goal is to create a web application that benefits the NUS student body by providing a platform for students to connect and form groups. Additionally, we aim to offer students the opportunity to enhance their soft skills and work with different people, which would be valuable to them in the future.

With our passion for this project and our understanding of its significance for the NUS community, we believe that we are a great choice to bring this idea to fruition. Our solution would be particularly helpful for off-campus students and student exchangers. Although we are aware that this project will demand hard work and long hours, we are highly motivated individuals who are committed to learning and acquiring the necessary skills to accomplish this task. With your expertise, combined with our drive and dedication, we are confident in further enhancing our solution and turning our idea into reality.

We would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding our project and would appreciate any form of guidance and support. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

Thank you for your valuable time and consideration!

Hi Mr Dhawan

We are Gian Sen and Jason, and we aim to design a holistic mobile app that encourages one to be on their path to become a healthier individual. We believe that with your experience in mobile methodologies such as Agile Development and product development that our app would be able to come to fruition under your guidance. self++ is an app that monitors various aspects of life including sleep, focus, activity levels, and we hope for this app to become an all encompassing wellness app for our target audience. We hope to bring about the idea of gamification by providing daily tasks and rewarding individuals for completing tasks daily, and offer them in game currency to decorate their island to their liking. As students, our overall health is of utmost importance, and we hope this app will help encourage students to approach their lives from a more holistic point of view. The idea of a reward system and customisation of a personal island would serve as a form of motivation for them.

Both of us are motivated to learn the relevant technologies required to make this app a success, and we feel that with your guidance in the industry as well your extensive experience in product management, we would be able to succeed in this endeavour.

Best regards,

Dear Dhawan @"Dhawan Punukullu",

We are writing to you to express our interest in having you as our mentor here at Team HawkerBro.

HawkerBro is a mobile application that seeks to connect hawker stall owners and consumers. The hawker culture in Singapore is very unique. However, due to rising food prices and cost of living, the hawker culture is weakening. This has led to a decline in the number of hawker stalls and thus, a loss in some of our traditional foods that are integral to our identity.

This mobile application aims to contribute to the preservation of the hawker culture in Singapore. By increasing the accessibility to affordable and diverse hawker food, we can connect consumers to hawker owners to support our local entrepreneurs.

Our team comprises individuals who are keen in learning new software engineering practices that can help create solutions to industry problems. We decided to reach out to you as your area of interest aligns with the expertise that we require in carrying out our project. We are sure that with your guidance, we will be able to upgrade our knowledge in this field to complete our task and hopefully deploy it for public use.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
