Hi Ms Neo,

Who are we?
We are Team Canvas++. Our Orbital project is called Canvas++ where we aim to make a web-app that surpasses our current academic platform, Canvas, in terms of features, functionality and usability. By integrating Canvas with a productivity web-app along with many Quality-Of-Life features, we hope to develop a web-app that could help students sail through the semester.

Why did we choose this project?
We hope that our web-app will help students manage their heavy workload which is essential especially in the middle of the semester where their schedules start to become hectic. As students who had issues managing their workload, prioritizing which tasks to do first, we decided to create this project in hopes that it will increase productivity and reduce procrastination among students by making their workload easier to manage.

How?
With Canvas++ being a full-stack development project, we hope that your experience in software development will be able to push our project to greater heights by advising us on best software engineering practices to build a scalable and functional product. We would greatly appreciate your guidance and we strongly believe that our mentee-mentor pairing would be a compatible one, given the relevance of our project's tech to your skills and expertise in the field.

Feel free to contact us or refer to the attached proposal and poster to find out more about who we are, our project timeline as well as the specifics of the project. We look forward to having you as our mentor. Thank you for your consideration!

Hi Ms Neo,

We are Team SmartCookies, aiming to create a mobile application that would be able to digitalise and track our wardrobe items.

Our team has sincere interest in having you as our mentor for our project; we noticed that you have experience in both Software Engineering and also an interest in UI/UX. For us, we wish to create a digital wardrobe not only to encourage users to be more mindful about their clothing purchases, but also aim to use Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to explore the possibility of having the app recommend outfits to the user.

Since we are planning to create our app with React Native, we believe that your experiences will greatly help us in creating our wardrobe app.

Furthermore, as our app is very personal and is focused around fashion, we believe that having a good UI/UX is important to enhance the features of our app. Your guidance and expertise in this area will offer us invaluable insights that we can add to our app.

Since our team is aiming to make a user-friendly application that will provide convenience to our users, we believe that this makes you an ideal mentor who can guide us and inspire us to reach new heights with our application. We see this mentorship as an opportunity to complete our project successfully and grow both individually and as a team. On top of that, we believe that we will learn invaluable lessons and skills that will extend beyond this project and into our future or personal work.

We understand your time is precious and greatly appreciate your consideration. Should you choose to mentor our team, we will make sure to commit to making the most of this opportunity and working diligently to achieve our goals. Your guidance would impact our project and shape our future endeavours in computer science.

Thank you for considering our request! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or require further information. We look forward to the possibility of working with you and creating something valuable together.

Deliverables:

Dear Ms Neo Rui En,

We are Project Sage and our Orbital project is Odyssey, a rougelite RPG, aimed at providing players with an engaging combat game that explores the adventures adapted from the chapters of the famous Chinese novel "Journey to the West". In our game, players can look forward to learning the mechanics of each character and utilising in-battle character swapping to conquer various chapters and their unique chapter-specific mechanics, thereby guaranteeing an immersive gaming experience for all!

Our rationale for choosing to pursue game development for Orbital '23 stems from our curiosity on the game development scene. Thus we have set out to utilise the valuable opportunity provided by Orbital to learn important SE practices through developing our very own game!

Equipped with the lore of the highly regarded "Journey to the West", we believe we have a strong foundation for a game that allows players to explore the many adventures that are written in the popular novel and we are fully committed to realising this potential. We hope to tap on your wealth of experience in software development to guide us and allow us to achieve the goals that we have set for this Orbital project

Feel free to peruse the attached materials for a better understanding of the specifics of our project as well as to contact us on the relevant platforms should the need arise!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,
Project Sage (5827)

A Message For You

@"Neo Rui En Maybelline"

Hi Rui En!
Before going into the topic, we just wanna say that we really like your personal website. From the navigation to the small animations and it’s presentation, it’s a really user-friendly website and something that we would like to strive towards.

We are Team FinForce, and our project is essentially a personal finance app that’s trying to make the whole money management thing feels less like a chore. One of the main focus of our app is to ensure that it’s UI/UX elements are clean and intentional so that user’s can focus on money management instead of figuring out fancy interfaces. We aim to build our frontend components using React, and we believe that having a mentor who not only has React experience, but also someone who takes user interfaces seriously would bring a huge boost in our project, which is something that aligns with you.

Another one of the key features of our app is the ability to link bank accounts and e-wallets directly so that users do not have to manually log their expenses everytime. If you are interested in this aspect, all of us could learn together as we go!

Please let us know if you are interested, feel free to connect with us to discuss more about the project. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Regards,
FinForce (Team 5845)

Hi Ms. Neo,
We are Clay and Xenos, and our project is called RPGym. We aim to revolutionise the gym experience by making working out consistently fun and accessible for everyone. We plan to provide users with an all-in-one mobile application that combines an RPG-style gamification system and comprehensive workout tracking tools to help people stay motivated, log their progress, and achieve their fitness goals.

Both of us have started going to the gym recently, and we sometimes find it hard to stay motivated, especially without friends to consistently exercise with. In order to solve our problem, we wanted to make an application which makes staying motivated to exercise easier. We will implement gamification and peer accountability features to help with motivation, and implement workout tracking features that allow users to track their progress at the gym.

We want to make fitness accessible to everyone, and understand the importance of making RPGym as user-friendly as possible. We believe that your interest in software engineering and UI/UX design will be immensely helpful in guiding our project.

Feel free to contact us or refer to the attached materials to find out more about the specifics of our project. We hope that you will take us up as mentees and we look forward to potentially working with you. Thank you for your time!

Hi Ms Neo,

We are Team Polaris. We plan to develop an Augmented Reality (AR) application on our mobile phones that provide an experience similar to stargazing.

Being avid stargazers ourselves, we feel it is a shame that there are those who have never experienced the beauty of the universe and the sheer scale of it. In light-polluted Singapore, we wanted to share a glimpse of that joy with those that were never given the opportunity, anywhere, at any time, through the convenience of their phones. In doing so, we hope that users will be more keen to learn more and appreciate the vast space that we call home.

We hope to provide a pleasant user experience in using React.js for front-end development and mainly Unity Engine for the AR development. We hope to provide users with a seamless experience to view the night sky. With your experience in software engineering, we look forward to having you as our mentor!

Feel free to contact us and check out further details in the attached materials! Thank you for your consideration!

Best regards,
Polaris
