Dear Mr Ganesh,

We are Justin and Yue Hern from TheSocialPitstop, an online community connecting businesses and socially-oriented organisations for corporate social responsibility projects! There are many benefits for businesses to get involved in CSR activities, yet many companies, especially SMEs, struggle to plan an initiative that is both meaningful and enjoyable for their employees. Through our web and mobile applications, we aim to promote and streamline collaboration between these businesses and like-minded SOOs, and increase the adoption of CSR among businesses in Singapore.

Given that you have been an AWS Educate Cloud Faculty Ambassador, we foresee that our project which will run on AWS might greatly interest you. We hope that not only will we be able to tap on your expertise to create a meaningful product, but that we can also exchange ideas and discuss insights about the relevant industries. Looking forward to working with you!

Rachel Angelyn Gunawan

Good day Prof Ganesh!
I am Rachel and with my teammate, Vinessa, we are Team VIRA. We would love to have you as our mentor to develop our mobile application, Retreat! Retreat is essentially a gamified budgeting application that aims to make money management a more fun and exciting experience for everyone. By providing a game-like experience, we hope to nurture healthy spending habits among our users. A more complete description of our application main features is available in our proposal, poster, and video which we have linked below.

We believe that your experience and expertise in software engineering can greatly aid us not only in the development of this application, but also help us grow as developers.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to your reply!

Sincerely,
Team VIRA

Respected sir,
Our team, Vacilando, is named for the understanding that the journey is what truly matters. This belief is also interwoven into our project, ModPlaNUS, that is meant to be a web app with the power to optimize every NUS student’s academic journey. When brainstorming project proposals, both of us bonded over our shared woes when it came to navigating the complicated module planning exercise – a step with the power to determine our semester experience.
We hope to develop the app such that it can be a one-stop solution for all module planning related activities for students (current and prospective) such that most processes that we students now do either manually or by jumping from one website to another can be automated into a single smooth experience. In the app, we hope to feature a planner that shall help eliminate the manual process of checking for modules’ prerequisites, corequisites, substitutes, etc.
This shall help students easily manage their majors, minors, tracks and RC requirements. The app would also include a unique CAP calculator, a module info page connecting it to important NUS resources like NUSMods and a chatroom that shall facilitate streamlined information sharing regarding various modules and academic routes.
Your vast experience and knowledge, especially in the field of software engineering shall undoubtedly help us not only learn the standards by which the industry operates, but also create an app that is a sustainable software solution which grows beyond the scope of merely a project. More than anything, as first years who are passionate about computer science and are eager to learn about the ‘real-world’ corporate environment, we hope to understand and mirror the principles and practices of the SE industry highlighted in your slide as we believe that it is such learnings that shall be the true legacies of our academic journeys. Under your valuable mentorship, sir, we shall be able to pick up new skills while also enjoying the process. We would be truly excited and very much honored if you choose us to be your mentees, sir.
Thanking You,
Team Vacilando
