Chan Chang Yu, Linus

Good day Darryl, We are team ConnectiNUS and our team consists of Chan Chang Yu, Linus, and Ivan Chin Yue Ze! Below is the link for our group's proposal, poster, and video pitch: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1so9dFjJfwFL_5PBEn1EGDg2oP56iQB35?usp=sharing As students who are able to relate to the problem of having a lack of a communication platform specifically for discussion regarding our NUS modules, our team is truly driven and passionate about creating a mobile application platform that will be able to benefit many students alike. We genuinely believe that mutual peer learning is an abundant yet untapped resource and we are aiming to leverage on this to create a solution that can benefit current and future batches of NUS students. Our team is really looking forward to receiving your guidance, especially since your expertise in mobile applications and messaging in particular will be extremely relevant and invaluable to us as we develop our application. We hope that beyond the technical expertise, you could also share some insights as to how we may further improve our application being a former NUS student yourself! Feel free to contact any one of us at the following email addresses(e0726447@u.nus.edu OR e0773533@u.nus.edu) or telegram handle(@linuschan OR @rexlionz) if you have any additional questions for us or just want to find out more about what we do! We are looking forward to your favorable reply! Thank you so much for your time!

Ni Shenghan

Good day Mr Leong!

We are Chun Zhi and Shenghan from Project Minerva, which was created in response to the surprising lack of satisfactory digital platforms for tutors and tutees to connect conveniently.

With roughly S$1.4 billion spent on tuition in 2021 alone, it is shocking to see tuition-matching solutions that have lots of room for improvement.
Current solutions include agency webpages, which require manual matching by agents, as well as Telegram Bots which spin out walls of text that are hard to read. We believe that this can be done better.

Our vision is to ultimately create a web app that facilitates easy and direct communication between tutors and tutees.
We shall leave the details to our proposal found below, which elaborates on the ways we believe tuition-matching can be done better in Singapore.

We believe that being under your wings will give us a great driving force to create a more sophisticated and refined application. As your experience includes React/React Native and Golang, it will be beneficial for our web application as we will require these frameworks and languages in our project.
On top of this, we hope to seek your advice regarding your experience as a student during Orbital as we view this project not just as an assignment, but rather as a valuable journey for us to learn new skills in a fun and interesting way. It also gives us the opportunity to listen to your side of the story from the industry's perspective.

We would love to have you join our team and help us work towards our idea, as we may not be familiar with the web tools that we are using. However, we are hardworking and passionate individuals who are willing to improve in areas that we are lacking in, aiming for the best possible outcome for our project. Besides that, one of the member in the team is also a fan of JoJo (if you are referring to the anime). To use the reference from JoJo, simply put, we genuinely hope that you can be our "stand" and become the invisible pillar of strength in our team.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through our post! Please do feel free to contact us via the means provided below, and we hope to have the honour of having you on board our project as our mentor.

Warmest Regards,
Project Minerva

Wong Jing En

Hi Darryl,

Nice to meet you. We are Jing En and Yi Kuang, and we would love to have the honour of you mentoring us for our project, Pilot.
Pilot is an extension of conventional academic search engines on the open web. Combining features such as instant click downloads, field-related analytics and the ability to curate personal archives, we aim to liberate and revolutionise the way we browse academic papers.

Project Details

Project Pilot combines the functionalities of JSTOR's constellate API, Google Scholar and Library Genesis, to allow users to browse, save and download research papers for free on demand, on top of other additional features.

Features

Our intended recommendation algorithm will allow users to spend less time searching while gaining access to the most relevant & curated academic papers.
Every student knows how annoying it is to lose a paper that you saw somewhere, somehow, a long time ago. Pilot’s personal database will allow users to store papers with the click of a button, storing it into their own database for later reference. No more frustration of losing your papers!
Updated analytics on the academic fields that the query is related to. In this manner, users will be able to gain an understanding of where their search query is applied in real-world contexts.
On-demand instant download through fuzzy search with Libgen’s database, without the need to visit third party websites.

Hello Darryl,

We are StuBid (Year 1 CS and IS Students), also known as ‘Student Bidders’ who aims to innovate a one-stop mobile application (Similar to trading marketplace like Carousell) to allow students from all Singapore Universities to conveniently buy or sell unwanted items online through an anonymous bidding system.

The main theme of StuBid is ‘Anonymity’ which allows students to maintain their privacy and confidentiality, before/during the bidding process. Sellers can auction off their items to potential buyers, while buyers can submit their bid according to their preferred budget. When the final bid is accepted between the Seller and Buyer (Winning Bidder), the ‘Anonymity’ profile by both students will be released to each other (Contact details/information etc) where further transaction can take place.

Moreover, we realise that there is currently no online platform catered specifically for students in NUS or other universities to be able to buy/sell unwanted items. Therefore, StuBid not only serves as a marketplace for students, but also provide much needed convenience, assurance and freedom for students who wish to sell/buy items on an online platform.

We are highly motivated and hardworking individuals who have good interest in mobile development and other related applications. While we lack experience in software development, we are willing to put in our utmost effort to learn along the way. We wish to create a holistic and scalable application that can make a positive impact, as well as meeting the needs of our users. Our main goal is to learn something new, develop something cool, as well as having a fun, meaningful and memorable time together throughout the programme.

We strongly believe that your invaluable experience in Tiktok will help propel our project forward in the right direction by guiding us on best practices and building a great product! Aside from software development, we also look up to you as a mentor for possible career and industry advice in the future.

Lastly, feel free to contact us if our project resonates with you and we would be happy to schedule a call with you to discuss further. We are genuinely excited to make this project a reality and we hope that you will consider our team as we look forward to your mentorship and guidance!

Thank you and have a great day ahead!

Naren Sreekanth

Hi Darryl, we are team Dabaogo. We are creating a mobile-centric food delivery service that would create an opportunity for students to not only make money when they go out to have lunch but also to help fellow students get lunch and potentially make new friends. We aim to create not just a food delivery service but a community where students help one another buy lunch and make friends along the way with a small monetary incentive spurring these acts of kindness. Your experience in software development would be instrumental in helping us craft a seamless and most optimized experience for our users. Thus, we would be excited and honoured to have you on board as our mentor. We hope you find our project meaningful and exciting as we are keen on working with you to create an app that can change the way students order food on campus.

Dear Mr Leong,

We are Team State, a team looking to tackle the increasingly detrimental problem of declining mental health, particularly among students. We are creating WellNUS, a web application that tackles this problem by matching students to a group of like-minded peers that will act as a peer support system and improve the accessibility of counselling by utilising volunteer counsellors on top of professional counsellors.

Firstly, TikTok is extremely good at engaging users and connecting them with content creators in an easy and intuitive way. Similarly, our project, WellNUS, seeks to be able to engage students in a similar fashion so as to maintain long-lasting and effective peer support after a user has been matched with other like-minded peers. Your experiences as a software engineer in TikTok will enable us to create an application that is intuitive to use for a new user while being engaging enough for users to return to the app.

Furthermore, We are also making a messaging and video communication platform to facilitate group bonding activities and also hold counselling sessions, your experiences working on a message queue system will be invaluable to us during the design of this platform.

Lastly, We seek to challenge ourselves by using Go as our backend. Both my teammate and I are new to this tech stack and we feel that your experiences with Go will be very beneficial for our learning during this Orbital journey.

Thank you for taking your time from your busy schedule to become a Mentor for Orbital and we hope to work with and learn from you during this orbital journey.

Yours Sincerely,
Team State
