Hi Peadar! We are a pair of self-motivated, driven students who are building a platform which enables open-source collaborative development of notes/study material/cheatsheets (like GitHub or Kaggle for notes).
This idea came about as a result of problems we (and our friends) face, and genuinely believe that this would be a useful tool that will greatly enhance the educational outcomes of students everywhere.
We intend to build on an MEVN stack, and believe your experience in full-stack development would greatly benefit our team. We would be grateful and excited to be under your mentorship!
Do reach out to us via the aforementioned contact methods and thank you for your time!
As we made our first steps in web development, we realised that while writing static blogs or webpages is easy and quite trivial, adding comments to it is not so simple. Hence we decided to implement a web-based service that helps simplify the process, while still giving users the highest level of customisability possible. We will use Next.js, Node.js with a top priority to UI design and user experience.
From your introduction slide, we learned that you are experienced in developing full-stack websites, therefore we sent this application hoping to be guilded under your mentorship when building our full-stack web application to gain valuable experience.
We are also big fan of Japanese anime too (so big I am literally studying Japanese for that), so we would be very happy and excited to have a mentor sharing the same hobby!
We are searching for a mentor to guide us through our journey in Orbital 2022. Our team aims to create a mobile application that will act as a discussion platform for people who share an interest in Japanese Anime. Additionally, this application will also have an anime recommendation system which we plan to build using machine learning.
Your expertise in system design and your background in the tech industry will greatly assist us in developing this mobile application. Furthermore, your experience in Japanese Anime surely will give us many valuable insights because of the nature of our project.
If our project captures your interest, feel free to reach us via the contact details above. We are looking forward to having you as our mentor.

Respected sir,
Our team, Vacilando, is named for the understanding that the journey is what truly matters. This belief is also interwoven into our project, ModPlaNUS, that is meant to be a web app with the power to optimize every NUS student’s academic journey. While brainstorming project proposals, both of us bonded over our shared woes when it came to navigating the complicated module planning exercise – a step with the power to determine our semester experience.
We hope to develop the app such that it can be a one-stop solution for all module planning related activities for students (current and prospective) such that most processes that we students now do either manually or by jumping from one website to another can be automated into a single smooth experience. In the app, we hope to feature a planner that shall help eliminate the manual process of checking for modules’ prerequisites, corequisites, substitutes, etc.
This shall help students easily manage their majors, minors, tracks and RC requirements. The app would also include a unique CAP calculator, a module info page connecting it to important NUS resources like NUSMods and a chatroom that shall facilitate streamlined information sharing regarding various modules and academic routes.
Your areas of interest and experience, especially in web-applications (full-stack) and as a Frontend Engineer at TikTok, would be extremely valuable to us. Our goal resonates with the idea of improving communication and planning; that idea is at the very heart of our app. Under your mentorship, we are sure to step closer to our goal and experience the world of Software Development more fully. We would be truly excited and very much honoured if you choose us to be your mentees, sir.
Thanking You,
Team Vacilando
We are working on a full-stack web app that deals with a real problem that NUS students face. The goal is to build a well-indexed database, an efficient backend, and a clean website, able to serve users with speed and aesthetic. Your experience with full-stack web apps and Node.js is invaluable and we’d love to have you as our mentor for this project. We’re also excited to learn some frontend engineer workflows from you.

Hi Mr Liu!
We are Team Ka.Y.E., a team looking to create a customisable personal assistant in the form of a webapp. The ideas behind the features of our project stem from our personal experiences of inconveniences on communication platforms, platforms that we frequently use. The app aims to be a supplement to these platforms that provides utility to the users. We understand that you have experience in making full-stack web applications, something that would be very helpful to us as we are inexperienced in that field. We do feel like this project is a good opportunity to dip our feet into full-stack development. A large part of our app aims to assist users in making plans across their different messaging platforms in a way that does not let itself be affected by the clutter of everyday messaging interactions. Our hope is for the app to act as an intermediary to streamline decision making processes within a group, among other things. We aim to make a scheduler and personal assistant that is customisable to a user’s own interests for it.
Also, anime is something that has greatly interested and continues to interest us. Our team is also interested in implementing features involving anime related topics, such as information, artwork etc. Of course, our interests in anime does not end with work, and if we have the time we would gladly engage in discussion of our favourites. c:
Thank you!

Dear Mr Liu,
We are PokerBros and we bring a unique and engaging problem forward. Given the easing of gambling rules in Singapore, we wish to create an app which can upskill the public in one of the most popular games in the world, Poker. Learning the basic mathematical and statistical theories underlying poker can help to exponentially improve one's game. As such, we wish to serve beginners/intermediate players and introduce them to the technicalities of poker. Personally, we decided to create this project as we are passionate about playing poker and it took us months to understand the game better. With the experience and expertise we have, we wish to educate those freshly entering into the game to prevent them from losing money when playing poker. Our game has special features mentioned in our proposal and video.
It would be great to have you mentor us and advise us throughout the journey. We believe your expertise in system framework + web application is perfect and extremely beneficial in our roadmap to complete our project fun and meaningful project. It would be pretty cool if you are interested in playing poker too!
Regards,
Devanshu Bisht and Ang Yuze
We are Chun Zhi and Shenghan from Project Minerva, which was created in response to the surprising lack of satisfactory digital platforms for tutors and tutees to connect conveniently.
With roughly S$1.4 billion spent on tuition in 2021 alone, it is shocking to see tuition-matching solutions that have lots of room for improvement.
Current solutions include agency webpages, which require manual matching by agents, as well as Telegram Bots which spin out walls of text that are hard to read. We believe that this can be done better.
Our vision is to ultimately create a web app that facilitates easy and direct communication between tutors and tutees. We shall leave the details to our proposal found below, which elaborates on the ways we believe tuition-matching can be done better in Singapore.
Our team believes that your vast and diverse experience in front-end development will be a great help in realising our vision. It is definitely a challenging task to create a web app that is elegant, yet powerful enough to facilitate a good tuition-matching process. Nonetheless, a good mentor would help significantly in guiding us down the right path to achieve this goal to the best of our abilities!
Furthermore, although front-end development is indeed one of the core skills required in this project, there is no functionality without any back-end. Thus, your versatile full-stack experience would be perfect in helping us to bring this project to fruition.
Last but not least, we would like to connect with you as a mentor, both within and without Orbital. Computer Science can definitely be daunting at times (or most of the times) and anime has been a go-to for saving our mental health. It would be nice to have a mentor who can guide us along our life journey, including but not limited to anime recommendations. :)
Thank you for reading through our post! Please feel free to contact us via the means provided below, and we hope that we can have the honour of having you join us as our mentor.
