Dear Sir, our team is developing a web application that aims to organise a student’s task list that is accessible on all devices. Our application has 2 unique features. Firstly, it has a time-management and gamification system that encourages students to stay on track with their tasks. Secondly, it has the ability to create self-imposed deadline by accessing the student’s educational institution. We highly value your expertise in the entire stack and your experience in the tech industry. We are looking forward to learn from your experience throughout the mentorship and hope to gain insights on how to improve our project. Thank you.

Good day Mr Franslay! We are team NUSMaps. We are a proactive and action-driven team with a profound passion towards delivering tangible solutions to the NUS student population.
Your philanthropic involvement strongly resonates with our dedication to give back to the school – by providing a platform for inclusive navigation (which is disabled-friendly, flexible and accommodating to various priorities).
In addition, your experience with the full tech stack from server to mobile apps will serve as highly valuable guidance. Specifically, our project needs to be supported by a database that can handle high-frequency queries on both static and dynamically populated data. Thus, we believe that your inputs will be imperative to our journey of producing a scalable and stable system.
Furthermore, we greatly appreciate your dedication to this mentorship since day 1. In particular, our team warmly regards your thoughtfulness in bringing in orbital seniors during your busy periods to ensure that our learning is not hindered. This is exactly what we are looking for in a mentor. Hence, beyond the hard skills that our team anticipates to learn from you, we would like to form a lasting mentorship connection with you even after Orbital.
Thank you for reviewing our message with much thought and detail, and we certainly look forward to your favorable reply!
First and foremost, thank you for offering to mentor us on our journey through Orbital! I am Praveen, and alongside my teammate Summer, we are Team JustShareLah. Together, we are humbly requesting an opportunity to be under your wing throughout Orbital :)
In this day and age, resource extraction is causing more and more problems for our environment. Thus, Summer and I hope to catalyse the movement towards reducing resource wastage, by enabling communities to tap on each others' resources. We hope to develop a mobile application that allows for seamless sharing of resources within communities!
If our project piques your interest, you can contact us on Telegram (@praveeeenk or @wintarrr) or through email (praveenk@u.nus.edu or summerthia@u.nus.edu).
Looking forward to your favourable reply. Thank you!
As students who are able to relate to the problem of having a lack of a communication platform specifically for discussion regarding our NUS modules, our team is truly driven and passionate about creating this mobile application platform that will be able to benefit many students alike. We genuinely believe that mutual peer learning is an abundant yet untapped resource and we are aiming to leverage on this to create a solution that can benefit current and future batches of NUS students.
With your expertise and experience in full-stack development from servers to mobile application, our team believes that your guidance and technical expertise will be extremely relevant and invaluable to us as we develop our application.
Feel free to contact any one of us at the following email addresses(e0726447@u.nus.edu OR e0773533@u.nus.edu) or telegram handle(@linuschan OR @rexlionz) if you have any additional questions for us or just want to find out more about what we do! We are looking forward to your favorable reply! Thank you for your time!
We are Team State, a team looking to tackle the increasingly detrimental problem of declining mental health, particularly among students. We are creating WellNUS, a web application that tackles this problem by matching students to a group of like-minded peers that will act as a peer support system and improve the accessibility of counselling by utilising volunteer counsellors on top of professional counsellors.
We believe that your volunteerism and philanthropic spirit align with our vision for creating WellNUS. Just like how you founded Project Stable Staples to aid large families living in rental communities who faced negative implications of COVID-19, we hope to build WellNUS to help youths or students, especially those in NUS, struggling with mental health issues exacerbated by COVID-19.
We hope to build an app that can benefit NUS students and extend WellNUS beyond Orbital and NUS to positively impact society at a larger scale. We hope that we can learn as much as possible from you, on contributing back to society as well as how to utilise technologies as tools to achieve just that.
Thank you for taking your time from your busy schedule to become a Mentor for Orbital and we hope to work with and learn from you during this orbital journey.
Yours Sincerely,
Team State

Hello Mr Franslay,
I am Rui Jie, and I am partnered with Yujie, to form group JieJie, seeking to create a mobile application for NUS campus living, called hALLinOne!
Team name: JieJie
Project name: hALLinOne
Student names: Koh Rui Jie and Zhou Yujie
Our project seeks to centralise and facilitate the bookings of common facilities in student accommodations in NUS, and also have a social function for “jios”. We discovered that currently, block chats are being used to book these facilities such as the lounge, or to ask people to clear their laundry in the washing machines or dryers for others to use, which we find ineffective. Hence, we propose the all-in-one “hALLinOne” mobile application to address this.
Personal message:
Good day to you Mr Laurence, we are team hALLinOne! After looking at your personal details, we were particularly captivated by a few of your values. Firstly, your philanthropic background aligns with the app that we seek to create as we also want to contribute back to our community in hostels, which has given us a great experience over the past year (we were neighbours)! Secondly, we seek to learn as much as we can from Orbital, hence we value your experience with full stack development, as we seek to learn both front and back-end engineering. Both Rui Jie & I are ambitious and self-driven individuals, and we are committed to completing this Orbital project over summer!
We are Justin and Yue Hern from TheSocialPitstop, an online community connecting businesses and socially-oriented organisations for corporate social responsibility projects! There are many benefits for businesses to get involved in CSR activities, yet many companies, especially SMEs, struggle to plan an initiative that is both meaningful and enjoyable for their employees. Through our web and mobile applications, we aim to promote and streamline collaboration between these businesses and like-minded SOOs, and increase the adoption of CSR among businesses in Singapore.
Given that you have received the PVPA, we foresee that our project might greatly interest you. We hope that not only will we be able to tap on your expertise to create a meaningful product, but that we can also exchange ideas and discuss insights about the relevant industries. Looking forward to working with you!
Hi Laurence! We are a team working on a mobile application which aims to not only simulate colour blindness for users but also allow them to “play” with colours through our unique set of features.
Colour blindness is a commonly overlooked limitation that many people have, resulting in the lack of understanding and compassion towards people who suffer from colour blindness or deficiencies. We hope to challenge ourselves to successfully create our app by the end of Orbital and create the opportunity for users of our app to gain empathy for the difficulties faced by people with colour deficiency.
We hope to learn from your valuable experience in full stack mobile app development and hope to have you as our mentor to guide us on this exciting journey!
Thank you!
Dear Laurence,
We are a team that has delved into the world of home-based businesses. Having done so, we have realised
that one major issue faced by these businesses is the lack of exposure online. Rather than idling and waiting for a solution,
we have decided to take the initiative to solve this problem ourselves.
Our solution is UnLockal - a mobile application that serves as an online platform for home-based businesses to promote themselves and facilitate their
transactions. It will be amazing to have you extend your experience and knowledge within the startup field as well as expertise in Tech design to us so that
we can make UnLockal a reality. The impact UnLockal has on the community is far from small as UnLockal provides opportunities for the underprivileged
in society to earn extra income and improve their livelihoods.
We hope that our vision aligns with yours and look forward to having you on this journey with us!
Thank you for your time!
Best Regard,
UnLockal
We are searching for a mentor to guide us through our journey in Orbital 2022. Our team aims to create a mobile application that will act as a discussion platform for people who share an interest in Japanese Anime. Additionally, this application will also have an anime recommendation system which we plan to build using machine learning.
With your expertise in full-stack mobile application development and your experience in the tech industry, we believe that we will gain many valuable insights which are essential for the development of our application. Furthermore, your regular participation as an Orbital mentor speaks volumes about your excellence as a mentor.
If our project captures your interest, feel free to reach us via the contact details above. We are looking forward to having you as our mentor.
We are team YeetAlone. We strongly believe that our project is one that will not just be applicable to NUS, but can also be used as an idea for a viable start up. Your unique insights into not only mobile app development, but also working in mentoring Orbital students will be of great value to us.
We look forward to your guidance on our project.
Please feel free contact us on any of the platforms we have mentioned in this post.
Thank You and Best Regards,
Team YeetAlone (Ishita and Shirshajit)
We are Celine and Tricia, working on a mobile app “BestieVibes”! In today’s social media age where communication has lost the human touch and social bonds have been weakened, we hope to bring people together offline. We deeply resonate with your motivation to solve social problems, envisioning a society where more meaningful connections are forged between us and people spend more quality time with their loved ones. To achieve this, our app is centred around making the outing planning process fun and easy in a way that promotes regular face-to-face interaction while enabling users to discovering Singapore. We hope our message resonates with you and would love for you to guide us on our Orbital journey and learn more about you! With our determination and curiosity to learn, we hope to create an incredible product alongside you that will make the world a better place! We would really value your experience and full stack expertise in our journey of end-to-end development for our app.
We are happy to address any of your concerns! join this unique Telegram group with the both of us https://t.me/+loRbLaCRaBgxZjFl
We are Chun Zhi and Shenghan from Project Minerva, which was created in response to the surprising lack of satisfactory digital platforms for tutors and tutees to connect conveniently.
With roughly S$1.4 billion spent on tuition in 2021 alone, it is shocking to see tuition-matching solutions that have lots of room for improvement.
Current solutions include agency webpages, which require manual matching by agents, as well as Telegram Bots which spin out walls of text that are hard to read. We believe that this can be done better.
Our vision is to ultimately create a web app that facilitates easy and direct communication between tutors and tutees. We shall leave the details to our proposal found below, which elaborates on the ways we believe tuition-matching can be done better in Singapore.
We believe that our application can extend to help connect tutors who wish to teach free-of-charge with tutees who might be struggling financially. We hope that this can be a hub to bridge this gap, as the current solutions only caters for paid tuition services.
Furthermore, as we wish to maximise the outreach of our system, we are considering a mobile app extension in the late stages so that we can cater to users of all platforms. However, this is highly challenging and an experienced mentor skilled in both can definitely make a big difference!
We believe that your skills and experiences will be a great help in fulfilling our vision to solve this problem. Thank you for taking the time to look through our post. We hope that we can have the honour to learn from you during, and even after Orbital!
We are Team planlah (5216) consisting of Jotham and Akash - Year 1 Computer Science students who are passionate about software engineering, machine learning and entrepreneurship. Jotham is currently interning as a data engineer at TikTok’s E-Commerce team who is strongly passionate and has prior experience in machine learning research, while Akash is an ardent developer who has experimented with a lot of technology stacks and infrastructure tooling. Our project seeks to combine both of our interests - we hope to build a social media application that leverages machine learning.
Our proposed application revolves around a personalized recommendation system for activities and places targeted towards groups of friends, in light of the recent changes in SIngapore’s COVID restrictions. Users would be able to create “outings”, groups with their jio-ed friends and family, and get recommended places and activities to do based on the group’s combined interests and location.
We aim to expand this into a commercializable social media application for Singaporeans where we would partner with local F&B and recommend their shops, and then give discounts to interested jio-ers. By allowing Singaporeans to post reviews of the places and activities after visiting them on their social media accounts, we ultimately aim for our product to be the premier Singaporean social media application for social outings.
Our reason for choosing you as our mentor is your vast knowledge about the technology stack and your ideals which strongly resonate with ours. We are both strongly motivated individuals aspiring to be world class software engineers. To that end, we would be honored to have you mentor us and help raise our skills and competencies to the next level, as well as shape our long-term goals of building a commercially viable market strategy for the application.
Thank you for taking your time to read this message, and we look forward to being your mentees.
We are Venus and Yun Rong from Team Focat, Year 1 Computer Science students who are passionate about software engineering and building reliable and scalable mobile apps. Our project is a productivity mobile app inspired by a similar one called Forest, targeting students. As users of Forest ourselves, we have discovered many flaws which we aim to fix with Focat and to further develop features that we wished Forest had. We also aim to publish our app on the app store after Orbital to hopefully provide students with a better productivity mobile app to use.
As it would be our first time working on a software engineer project at this scale on our own with the intention to gain actual users for our app, we hope to be able to leverage upon your vast experience as a mentor and a tech lead to guide us, even possibly after Orbital, in this project and our career as software engineers.
Looking forward to working with you and thank you for your time!
Good day to you! Our project, Telekinesis Gloves is an idea we both thought would be really interesting to hack together for an orbital project. Telekinesis Gloves is a unique idea of ours to build a glove that is able to help users control electronic devices around them using gestures. It is a project born out of interest, and generally a desire to hack together something we thought was genuinely really cool.
While our project might not revolve around any social problem, it is a project that we are both genuinely passionate about, and are both really driven to do. While we are familiar with some of the technologies we are using, we are also diving into the discomfort zone and trying our new hardware/software ideas that we are new to, as we believe this is the essence of hacking up a new project, and you call for self driven teams caught our interest
We would love for you to be able to mentor our project and help us our with what we think is a really awesome idea. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any queries, we would love to answer them, at @chunyulam or @Iantensoku on telegram!
Dear Mr Liu,
We are PokerBros and we bring a unique and engaging problem forward. Given the easing of gambling rules in Singapore, we wish to create an app which can upskill the public in one of the most popular games in the world, Poker. Learning the basic mathematical and statistical theories underlying poker can help to exponentially improve one's game. As such, we wish to serve beginners/intermediate players and introduce them to the technicalities of poker. Personally, we decided to create this project as we are passionate about playing poker and it took us months to understand the game better. With the experience and expertise we have, we wish to educate those freshly entering into the game to prevent them from losing money when playing poker. Our game has special features mentioned in our proposal and video.
It would be great to have you mentor us and advise us throughout the journey. We believe your expertise in system framework + web application is perfect and extremely beneficial in our roadmap to complete our project fun and meaningful project. It would be pretty cool if you are interested in playing poker too!
