Hello Mr. Jerry!
We are Silas and Bryan from Team Head in the Clouds! We are contactable via email e0726509@u.nus.edu (Bryan) and e0725425@u.nus.edu (Silas). Here is a link to our poster, proposal and video: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ldla7bUpmy4L3Pp85xVyI6swKcQN8zNH?usp=sharing
The main motivation behind creating this application is the overly complex task manager in the market today. As such we wanted to create something that is simple yet effective. Inspired by the concept of bullet journalling, our project Striker was born – a task manager application that focuses on getting the job done, without the superfluous design. We are using React from the frontend and Go for the backend.
We feel that your wealth of experience is very relevant to our project and will be immensely useful in guiding us in the right direction as we embark on this project. We are eager to learn from you and do drop us an email if you have any questions. Thank you for taking the time to consider us and we are excited to hear from you soon!
Dear Jerry,
We are a team that has delved into the world of home-based businesses. Having done so, we have realised
that one major issue faced by these businesses is the lack of exposure online. As such, we have decided
to embark on a project to create UnLockal - a mobile application that serves as an online platform for
home-based businesses to promote themselves and facilitate their transactions. We hope to have you
onboard this journey with us as we feel that your expertise in the backend development will be crucial
to the success of UnLockal. We are highly motivated to continuously learn and improve ourselves along
the way in Orbital and we are excited to be able to learn from you during the development of this
project. We look forward to working with you! Thank you for your time!
Best Regard,
UnLockal

Dear Jerry,
We are team EzOrder, we aim to create a telegram bot that is simple to use, user friendly and innovative that can be used to collate orders.
Both Wei Guan and I are NUS student staying on campus and we constantly encounter countless issues when having to manually create order lists on our Telegram group chats. We feel that our Orbital Project has the potential to solve all of these issues, provide much more, and could be indispensable to many Telegram group chats. We hope that with your vast experience in software development we could fulfil this potential.
Do reach out to us using our email or telegram handles! We look forward to your favourable reply.
Regards
EzOrder Team
Hi Jerry, we are team Dabaogo. We are creating a mobile-centric food delivery service that would create an opportunity for students to not only make money when they go out to have lunch but also to help fellow students / a student get lunch and potentially make new friends. We aim on creating not just a food delivery service but a community where students help one another buy lunch and make friends along the way with a small incentive spurring these acts of kindness. Your experience in mobile app development and backend experience would be instrumental in helping us craft the seamless and most optimized experience for our users and thus, we would be excited and honored to have you on board as our mentor. Additionally, your experience working on React, Javascript, and SQL servers would be of great use to us as we are planning on utilizing these tools for our application as well. We hope that you find our project meaningful and exciting as we are keen on working with you to create an app that can change the way students order food on campus.
We are working on a web app that deals with a real problem that NUS students face. Data is the heart of our project, so your experience with data migration projects is a perfect fit for our project. A big part of Modtree’s focus is speed and reliability, which requires a solid backend foundation, and we’d love to have you as a mentor in facing the task of building it.
Nice to meet you. We are Jing En and Yi Kuang, and we would love to have the honour of you mentoring us for our project, Pilot.
Pilot is an extension of conventional academic search engines on the open web. Combining features such as instant click downloads, field-related analytics and the ability to curate personal archives, we aim to liberate and revolutionise the way we browse academic papers.
Project Details
Project Pilot combines the functionalities of JSTOR's constellate API, Google Scholar and Library Genesis, to allow users to browse, save and download research papers for free on demand, on top of other additional features.
Features
Our intended recommendation algorithm will allow users to spend less time searching while gaining access to the most relevant & curated academic papers.
Every student knows how annoying it is to lose a paper that you saw somewhere, somehow, a long time ago. Pilot’s personal database will allow users to store papers with the click of a button, storing it into their own database for later reference. No more frustration of losing your papers!
Updated analytics on the academic fields that the query is related to. In this manner, users will be able to gain an understanding of where their search query is applied in real-world contexts.
On-demand instant download through fuzzy search with Libgen’s database, without the need to visit third party websites.
We see that you’re a Senior Software Engineer with React experience. With your extensive background and expertise, our team would love to have you onboard as a mentor. Do let us know if you’re willing to take on this project together with us!
Dear Jerry, before we make our introduction, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to you for joining onboard the Mentoring Team for Orbital 2022. We hope that you have a great time here.
In today's age and society, while video games has replaced much of physical board and card games, we hope to develop a platform to enable tabletop game players and enthusiasts to freely rent and buy/sell their physical tabletop games. Our platform would also feature a community section that allows users to explore and connect with tabletop players and interest groups around them physically, and feature regular events for users to participate.
The following tech stack will be used for this project:
1) Mobile Development (By Wen Jun)
Flutter
2) Web Development (By Marcus)
React/Redux
TypeScript
React Testing Library/Jest
3) Backend Development (By Wen Jun)
ExpressJS (Server) / Cloud Function or AWS (Serverless)
Auth: Firebase
Database: Firebase / MongoDB
File Storage: Firebase Cloud Storage / AWS S3
We believe we can leverage on your expertise in Software Engineering to create a comprehensive product.
We have prior experience in both front- and back-end web development through our Hall's Developers CCA, where we create a web app for our hall to facilitate residents' lives. We believe we possess the foundational technical skills for our project, and we would like to leverage on your expertise to learn more on the best practices for front- and back-end web application development as practised in the industry.
Therefore, by leveraging on your expertise and mentorship, we believe that we can maximise our technical capabilities and create the most value out of our project.
The 100 Club - A Validated Concept with 20+ Interested Student Founders
Hi Jerry, thank you for volunteering to be part of Orbital. We believe your skillsets + prior experiences as a Software Engineer, would make a great fit for our team, and we would love the opportunity to work together + learn from you. We’ve got a proven, validated concept, and a motivated team that will ensure strong initiative + planning frameworks to reduce any operational concerns on your end.
Entrepreneurship is difficult - it’s lonely, it’s tough to hold yourself accountable, and it’s not easy to explore uncharted territories. That is why our team is currently building The 100 Club, which is a mastermind membership platform + community, that matches entrepreneurial individuals into groups of 4, in order for them to support each other in staying accountable, sharing advice, and networking to grow their business.
Membership platform features include:
• Membership system
• Directory of Customisable User Profiles with Search Functionality
• Swag Store with Credits
• Mentorship access for chats
• Content Library
It is an idea that we are going to expand/commercialise in the future and we have already found traction with over 20+ student founders keen on joining us. Feel free to check out our material below! We hope you consider our proposal favourably and look forward to hearing from you. Cheers.

We are Team planlah (5216) consisting of Jotham and Akash - Year 1 Computer Science students who are passionate about software engineering, machine learning and entrepreneurship. Jotham is currently interning as a data engineer at TikTok’s E-Commerce team who is strongly passionate and has prior experience in machine learning research, while Akash is an ardent developer who has experimented with a lot of technology stacks and infrastructure tooling. Our project seeks to combine both of our interests - we hope to build a social media application that leverages machine learning.
Our proposed application revolves around a personalized recommendation system for activities and places targeted towards groups of friends, in light of the recent changes in SIngapore’s COVID restrictions. Users would be able to create “outings”, groups with their jio-ed friends and family, and get recommended places and activities to do based on the group’s combined interests and location.
We aim to expand this into a commercializable social media application for Singaporeans where we would partner with local F&B and recommend their shops, and then give discounts to interested jio-ers. By allowing Singaporeans to post reviews of the places and activities after visiting them on their social media accounts, we ultimately aim for our product to be the premier Singaporean social media application for social outings.
Our reason for choosing you as our mentor is the wealth of experience and industry insights that you have in software and backend development from your time at PayPal. Given your level of experience and wisdom, we would be honored to have your mentorship and perspectives to help shape our long-term aims of reaching a commercially viable market strategy for the application.
Thank you for taking your time to read this message, and we look forward to being your mentees.
